Election Bio — My name is Yolanda Wood. I am excited to serve as the Region 6 Representative for the NAFCC Board of Directors. I have been a child care provider for 16 years and raised four children of my own. I have five grandchildren. I have been accredited since 2001. Prior to becoming a family child care provider, I worked at West Las Vegas Elementary School for eight years as a teacher assistant. In my experience, I have learned that early childhood development is one of the most important stages in our lives. I feel that the best child care experiences occur in a home-based program with hands-on opportunities. I believe that when you work with children on a daily basis, your experiences are rewarding!

My experience and knowledge in the early childhood field will be beneficial to other providers. I am fluent in both English and Spanish, which enhances my ability to provide important information to family child care providers about accomplishing their goals in early childhood. I want to help providers become professionals and have improved opportunities in their field of work. Partnering together, we can teach the children basic values such as being respectful, daily speaking and socialization. We need to remember how critical it is to build relationships with the children in our care, as that will affect a child’s learning. We need to understand that our paperwork is not our top priority. It is more important that we nurture the children while they are in our care. We need to take a step back and focus, to accomplish our goal to provide better care to our children. It is important for providers to have a support group to aide them in acquiring training that is needed to provide high quality child care.

I welcome the opportunity to assist providers with information needed in this field of work. By giving me the opportunity for this position, I will put the effort needed to help all providers, families and communities within my region.
