Election Bio — I have served NAFCC for ten years as a committee chair and had often been urged to run for the board. I wanted to complete my master’s degree and write a book. I also had young children at home who needed my attention. I ran a busy family child care program and taught community college. I wanted to run for the Board, but I just didn’t know how I could work it all in. As an advocate for family child care I have had to learn that while we want our seat at the table we often can’t get there for a variety of reasons. Even when we are lucky enough to get invited, sometimes other responsibilities hold us back. I have always believed we can do everything we want, but sometimes we just can’t do them all at once. However, now I feel the time is right. I have completed my degree and I have published a book. My children are older and my business is supported by capable assistants. I have tremendous support to manage professional and personal endeavors. I feel very confident that my experience and education make me a very good candidate for Member-at-Large. I have a wide range of skills I can utilize to advocate for family child care and I have developed a network within the field I can call on for mentoring and guidance. We are facing challenging times and I feel I can contribute to strengthening NAFCC for a brighter tomorrow.
