Election Bio — I am from Lake Placid, New York. Since 1981 I have been a professional child care provider, with a few brief periods of time off to pursue other ventures. Since then I have come to realize that family child care is what truly makes me happy and what I do best. In the last few years of my career as a child care professional, I have earned my CDA, completed 64 college credit hours, thus earning an Associate degree in Educational Studies with a concentration in Early Childhood. I am presently taking the first steps towards achieving my NAFCC Accreditation which I hope to have within 6 months. I strongly feel it is important for all providers to be better informed and interested in the process and the values of NAFCC Accreditation.
My goal as a childcare provider is to provide a safe and happy environment where the children can learn and grow physically, emotionally, intellectually and socially at their own pace. Each child is treated with love and respect. My home provides children with the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of activities.
I feel I am a good candidate to continue to serve on the board for NAFCC as I have been a long time licensed provider in New York State. In addition I am presently serving as a board member and secretary of the Family Child Care Association of New York State, Inc (FCCNYS). On the county level, I was instrumental in forming a provider support group to meet monthly to share concerns and encourage other providers.
It would be an honor to continue to serve the board of the NAFCC, not only to share my child care knowledge but to also learn from other childcare profes-sionals from across the country. I have seen the child care profession grow from being considered “Babysitters” to early childhood “Educators”. I would love the opportunity to continue to be part of our growing professionalism on the national level.
Children are my life and I want to be the best that I can be to help them grow and learn to the best that they can be. Being involved on the county, state and national levels will help me to achieve this and more!
