NAFCC Re-Accreditation

Providers display an on-going commitment to the profession of family child care when they pursue re-accreditation. When providers become re-accredited, they continue to validate that high quality family child care is a valid child care option and essential to their community.

How to Apply for Re-accreditation

Self Study Enrollment

Providers enroll in self-study if annual updates were not completed, accreditation has expired, or if a provider chooses to enroll in self study.

Accreditation Application

Because providers demonstrate growth, commitment to the quality standards, and continuous improvement through the annual updates, providers are not required to enroll in self-study as long as their accreditation application is complete before their accreditation expires.

Providers submit an accreditation application, which includes the following. Click on each link for forms and information:

Planning for the Observation Visit

Providers seeking re-accreditation are encouraged to complete the process in a timely manner so there is no gap in accreditation and a constant, easy to anticipate, re-accreditation date is maintained. Re-accreditation will begin on the previous accreditation expiration date if the decision is made within 45 days prior to or after the original expiration date. Please note the following time lines when planning to submit the accreditation application.

It is important to plan for when you will be able to have an observation visit before you submit your application.

The observation visit will take place the 4th or 5th month (candidate’s choice) after the application is received and eligibility is verified. Submit your complete application according which month you are available to complete an observation visit.

Once NAFCC verifies that your application is complete you will be contacted to select the month you would like to have your observation visit. You may also be eligible to select up to 4 days during that month that you would like to exclude from the schedule.

  • If your program is open at least 5 days a week you may identify up to 4 days that month that you would like to exclude from the schedule.
  • If your program is open at least 4 days a week you may identify up to 2 days that month you would like to exclude from the schedule
  • If your program is open less than 4 days a week you are not eligible to exclude any days from the schedule.

You should be prepared for your observation visit any of the remaining days during the month.
