NAFCC is looking for individuals who are highly committed to its mission of strengthening the profession of family child care and who are dedicated to the organization’s goals.

Goals include:

  • Supporting local and state associations
  • Promoting NAFCC Accreditation
  • Promoting NAFCC as a high performing inclusive organization
  • Advocating for providers and for the field of family child care at the regional and national level
  • Delivering effective programs through strong organizational management
  • Securing the fiscal health of NAFCC through strong financial management and fund development

Board of Director positions are three-year terms, with the exception of the President, and are elected by the membership. The position of President is a five-year commitment. Board positions are elected in the spring of each year (positions are staggered so that one third of the Directors is elected each year).

Board of Directors Application Deadline:

Committee Chair positions are appointed by the President and approved by the NAFCC Board of Directors in the spring of each year. Committee Chair positions are appointed for one year and may be renewed for up to three years. These appointed positions start August 1st of each year and are completed as of July 31st of the following year.

Board of Director Positions:

General responsibilities include but are not limited to: being a member in good standing; performing outlined job descriptions; accountability to NAFCC membership in relation to goals, objectives, and expansion; regular reporting; contributing to expenses associated with participating in NAFCC functions as needed; accepting direction from the President; promoting and representing NAFCC as approved; attending all NAFCC functions and meetings (quarterly conference calls, annual conference, annual 3-4 day working weekend). Members of the Executive Committee have one additional conference call meeting per month.

Board of Directors:

The NAFCC Board consists of five (5) officers who make up the Executive Committee (plus a President Elect or Past President when applicable), one (1) representative from each of the ten regions, one Regional Representative’s Council Delegate, one (1) State Presidents’ Council Delegate, and at least three (3) members at large. All applicants for the Board of Directors shall:

  1. Hold a current NAFCC Individual Membership and be in good standing.
  2. Have documented evidence of current involvement in the family child care profession and related activities.
  3. Agree to promote the mission and goals of NAFCC.
  4. Executive Committee nominees should have a minimum of two years of experience serving on the NAFCC Board prior to taking office. This requirement can be waived with a ⅔ majority vote of the members present at a scheduled Full Board meeting.

General Responsibilities of each Board Member:

  1. Directors and Officers have a fiduciary duty to NAFCC, which includes both a duty of care and a duty of loyalty.
  2. The duty of care requires the Director to use best judgment and all information available to make decisions in the role held with NAFCC. The duty of loyalty requires the Director to put the interests of NAFCC ahead of personal interests.
  3. It is the Director’s responsibility to be present for board meetings and calls and to review all information sent in advance to be prepared to participate in discussions and voting.
  4. It is also the Director’s responsibility to review the minutes of all meetings and to be thoroughly familiar with the actions taken by the Board.
  5. In addition to participating in board meetings, each Director is expected to serve on an NAFCC committee and participate actively.
  6. Chronic failure to participate in board and committee meetings is a breach of fiduciary duty to NAFCC and could result in a request for resignation, a leave of absence, or removal from office.

Members of the NAFCC Board of Directors shall:

  1. Accept responsibility for performing duties outlined in job descriptions in a serious and sincere manner.
  2. Carry out additional duties and responsibilities of the organization as needed and directed by the President.
  3. Be accountable to the membership for the nature and quality of decisions of NAFCC.
  4. Accept responsibility for increasing membership, and/or soliciting information about grant opportunities and fundraising which is to be forwarded to the Executive Director and President.
  5. Maintain both written and verbal communication with the national office and the President in a consistent manner.
  6. Submit a quarterly report to the Vice President which includes an overview of respective committee activities as well as personal contributions and contacts made.
  7. Submit a written recap of annual activity of board and committee work to the President for the Annual Report.
  8. Attend all NAFCC functions, meetings, and conference calls unless excused by the President. This includes a minimum of four Full Board conference calls, up to one full week at the NAFCC annual conference as necessary, and at least one 3-4 day retreat per year.
  9. In addition, those that serve on the Executive Committee must also participate on monthly conference calls.
  10. Contribute to expenses associated with participating in NAFCC functions as needed and determined by the Board.
  11. Accept assigned roles at NAFCC functions as directed by the President.
  12. Return all NAFCC property and materials to the NAFCC office within 30 days of the end of term of office.

Vice President:

  1. The Vice President position requires 2 years experience on the NAFCC Board of Directors.
  2. Functions as a voting member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
  3. Performs such duties as delegated or assigned by the President or Board of Directors.
  4. Shall perform the duties of the President in the event that that individual is unable to serve.

Regional Representatives’ Council Delegate:

  1. Functions as a voting member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
  2. Performs such duties as delegated or assigned by the President or Board of Directors.

State Presidents’ Council Delegate:

  1. Functions as a voting member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
  2. Performs such duties as delegated or assigned by the President or Board of Directors.

Members at Large:

  1. Function as voting members of the Board of Directors.
  2. Performs such duties as delegated or assigned by the President or Board of Directors.

Standing Committee Chair Positions:

Are appointed by the President with Board approval; create committee descriptions, policies and procedures; support and coordinate reports for distribution by the National Office.
